The new alliance between the Performing Arts and Sport will allow you to shake it at dance class during Thursday sport.
Sydney Catholic School (SCS) students in years 7 and 8 have an awesome opportunity to learn and grow their passion for dance through a new Stage 4 initiative.
SCS Artists in Residence, Brad Carter and Sally Dashwood, are heading this scheme and explain that the intention for this co-curricular dance program is to combat an identified gap and decline in the Performing Arts.
“This program is a stepping stone, it opens the door for students who may not know a lot about dance. They come in, learn, and build a passion for it. This is a subject they can take at school and take it through to HSC and do really well in it” Brad explains.
First to strike a pose are Aquinas College Menai and St Patrick’s Sutherland, who come together during Thursday sport for a dance workshop taught by Brad and Sally.
Menai’s Year 10 Coordinator, Kate Wilson, describes the lessons as an “everyone’s-welcome dance group.”
“There was a lot of interest in it. We have upwards of 20 girls and Sutherland brings over about 25. I think it’s lovely that they’ve all just blended together.”
The initiative is open to novice and experienced movers and shakers and has already generated a lot of interest and excitement among students.
SCS is looking forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on school communities. We are providing a supportive and inspiring environment that we hope will encourage more students to pursue their passion for dance and the arts.
