
Sydney Athletics Championships

- 6:45am – Venue Gates Open & Student Registration check-In Opens
- 7:25am – First call for Marshalling for 7:45am Events
- 7:35am – Final call for Marshalling for 7:45am Events
- 7:45am – First Event Begins
- 9:00am – Opening Ceremony

- All events are conducted using World Athletic Rules unless otherwise advised by the SCS Convenor.
- NSW Athletics will be present for starting, judging and disqualification purposes
- Parents and Spectators are not permitted to approach the NSW Officials or recording staff.
- No substitutions are permitted in any event except relays.
- All track events are timed finals.
- Only ‘Pyramid’ or ‘Christmas Tree’ spikes (also called compression tiered spikes) are to be used on the track for athletic activity.
- Needle spikes are not permitted. Spikes are only permitted on competition areas and must not be worn in spectator areas or indoors.
- Maximum spike lengths:
- Running activity maximum of 7mm
- Throw and jump activity maximum of 9mm

- For track preservation and longevity, all athletes wearing spikes must use starting blocks in laned events up to and including 400m and the first runner of a relay. Athletes in Multi Class events excluded.
- No spikes will be permitted in the 800m and 1500m events. (Primary Student Events Only)

- Parents, coaches and other unauthorised persons are not permitted in the marshalling, recording, on the track or finish line areas.
- Once participants are at track marshalling, or at their field event, they are no longer to receive any coaching or advice.
- Non participating students, Parents, Coaches and Spectators are not permitted on any part of the track at any time.
- In order to protect the safety of our students, we ask parents to only take photos of their child from the spectator/viewing area. Where possible, crop out any other students.
- No group photos are to be taken without parental consent of all the students being photographed.
- Protests must be submitted in writing within ten (10) minutes of the conclusion of the event or incident at the information table at the top of the marathon tunnel
- A written protest form can be obtained from the officials at the information table at the top of the marathon tunnel
- The protest committee shall consist of: Referee (Athletics NSW), Convener, Sydney Catholic Schools Sport officers i.e. Conference Sport Coordinator, Education Officer, etc.
- Their decision will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into.

- The convenor reserves the right to change the event order without prior notice.
- The convenor may also combine events when and where necessary without prior notice. This pertains mainly to the 1500m and 800m events, but is not exclusive to these events.
- The Full event program will be uploaded by Thursday 28th August
- Students will be able to Warm up on the Main and Warm Up tracks from 6:45am
- Warm Up on both Tracks will conclude when the first event is called to Marshall.
- Once the Carnival has started, there is no designated warm up time or area allocated for the SCS Athletics Championships.
- It is the responsibility of the athlete and parent/carer to ensure that competitors are sufficiently prepared for their events.

- TRACK MARSHALLING
- Athletes will be called to the marshalling area approximately 20 minutes prior to their event.
- Athletes are to only go to the marshalling area for Track Events. The marshalling area is located at Gate A near the main arena.
- Individual students will not be called to marshalling if they miss the announcements.
- No accommodation will be made for any student who misses their event.
- FIELD MARSHALLING
- Athletes are to go straight to their Field Event when called to marshal via the Marathon Tunnel.

- Students can only enter and exit the Main Track via the Marathon Tunnel.
- If an Athlete has a clash in their events, they are to go to the clash Table located at the bottom of the Marathon Tunnel.
- Field events will officially close 30 minutes after the first throw/jump, unless otherwise advised by the SCS Convenor.
- No accommodation will be made for any student who misses their event.

- PRIOR TO THE EVENT
- All Competitors need to register through the CSNSW portal prior to attending the Championships.
- All Competitors registrations must also have principal approval.
- AT THE EVENT
- Competitors arriving with Parents or Careers:
- Schools are not required to send a Teacher to the Championships – This is a school based decision.
- Students travelling with Parents or Careers are asked to register with the QR Code upon their arrival at the Athletics Centre.
- If a student needs a Media or Medical Alert wrist bands they need to collect one from the information desk at the Main Track
- Competitors arriving with their School:
- Schools travelling as a team (via buses) are asked to send a teacher to the information table to register students.
- Teachers are also asked to collect Media and Medical Alert bands from the information desk at the Main Track.

- 6 students from each event will be selected to represent SCS at the NSWCPS Athletics Championships.
- Progressions into this event will be posted on the SCS Sport Website following the Championships.

- The top 3 students from each event will automatically qualify.
- The final 3 positions will be determined by SCS Sport post-event, taking into account the unlikely event of any extraordinary circumstances.

- Students selected will represent SCS at the NSWCCC Athletics Championships. Progressions into this event will be posted on the SCS Sport Website following the Championships. The number of students that progress for each event are as follows:
- All Mainstream Field events – 2 students
- 400m & Hurdles – 2 students
- 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m & Multi Class Field Events – 4 Students
- Students selected into the 1500m Race Walk event at NSWCCC Championships will be emailed directly.
- Please Note:
- The top 2 students in each Track and Field Event automatically qualify.
- The final 2 positions in Track Events (100m, 200m, 800m & 1500m) will be determined by SCS Sport post-event, taking into account the unlikely event of any extraordinary circumstances..
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Students applying for Special Consideration must fall under the following circumstances:
- Injured and must provide a doctor’s certificate that clearly indicates they will be ready to compete at the next level of the pathway.
- Competing at a CSNSW, NSW PSSA, NSW All Schools or Sport School pathway competition at the same time as the Sydney selection.
- A critical family event.
- Students applying for Special Consideration must fall under the following circumstances:
Sydney Catholic Schools Sport reserves the right to apply discretionary consideration to all applications.
- Process
- The parent/guardian of the student must complete this google form. Completion of this form is an agreement that this is true and accurate information.
- This application must be completed at least 24 hours prior to the start of the selection trial.
- Students must be registered on the CSNSWW portal csnsw.sport by the closing date.
- Please attach a medical certificate if applicable.
- Information about the student will be based on what is presented on this document only.
Application for special consideration does not guarantee selection.
- Multi class students and their parent/guardian are asked to check in with Mrs Anna Turnbull the Multi Class Coordinator.
- Please see the one of the information tables who will contact her on your arrival.
- Track medals will be awarded to students at the end of their event and are to be collected from the Dani Stevens room on the Northern Concourse room when results are announced.
- Field medals will be awarded to students at the completion of their Field Event.
- Unclaimed medals from Conference Carnivals, Conference Age Champions & Record Certificates Medals can also be collected from the Dani Stevens room.
- Patrons are advised to park in P2 & P3 and will incur the nominated casual parking fees thereafter.
- Parking vouchers need to be collected at the venue before returning to the car park pay station for validation and/or additional payment.
- Souvenir Sydney Catholic Schools apparel will be available for purchase at the Struddys Merchandise stand which will be located on the concourse (in the proximity of Bays 8 to 7).
- Students are to wear their school’s sports uniform to the Event.
- Students are to supply their own water bottle, hat/cap, sunscreen and refreshments.
- Personal equipment should be marked clearly with the child’s name and school.
- Lost Property will not be collected.
- Canteen facilities will be available on both the Main and Warm Up Track.
- It is advisable that students bring sufficient refreshments, including lunch.
- There will be no lunch break.
- Competitors should eat lunch when a suitable time arises for them.
Secondary Conference Athletics Carnival
VENUE: Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre – MAIN COMP & WARM UP TRACK
- Warm-Up Track – Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Homebush
- Main Comp Track – Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Homebush
PLEASE NOTE:
- Conference 1 & Conference 3 Carnivals will be held on the Warm Up Track
- Conference 2 & Conference 4 Carnivals will be held on the Main Comp Track
- All Multi Class Athletes will compete on the Main Track
TIME:
- Gates Open: 7:00 am
- Marshal first event: 7:30 am
- First events commence at: 7:45 am
- Finish Time: Approx 2:45 pm
PARKING: Parking Validation will be able at the Reception Desk in the Main Track Office for a flat rate of $23.00. Please park in either P1, P2, P3 or P4.
UNIFORM: Students are to wear their school’s sports uniform to the Event
SPIKES:
- No spikes will be permitted in the 800m and 1500m events.
- Only ‘Pyramid’ or ‘Christmas Tree’ spikes (also called compression tiered spikes) are to be used on the track for athletic activity. Needle spikes are not permitted. Spikes are only permitted on competition areas and must not be worn in spectator areas or indoors.

SEATING AREAS: Spectators, parents/carers/guardians and coaches are to remain in the spectator area and are not permitted within the competition boundary, which will be made clear on the day of the Event. No pets are permitted at this Event.
EVENT ORDER AND EVENT FORMAT: The convenor reserves the right to change the event order without prior notice. The convenor may also combine events when and where necessary without prior notice. This pertains mainly to the 1500m and 800m events, but is not exclusive to these events. All running events are timed finals.
FINALS, SELECTIONS AND AWARDS:
- Medals will be provided to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place-getters in each event.
- Selected students progress to represent their conference at the SCS Athletics Championships to be held on Friday 29 August 2025 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.
- Progressions to SCS Athletics:
- 100m event – 4 progress
- 200m, 400m, 800m 1500m and Relay events – 2 progress
- Field events – 2 progress
- Progressions to SCS Athletics:
- Javelin and Hurdles are not run at the Conference carnivals, this form is an expression of Interest application to compete in those events at the Sydney Championship Athletics Carnival.
- The Race Walk is not run at the Sydney Championships – this form acts as an expression of interest for those wishing to compete in this event at the NSWCCC Championships.
- These events are for experienced athletes only and your Sports Coordinator must endorse this application. Successful applicants will be notified by their School Sports Coordinator a week before the carnival.
- If nominating for multiple events, complete a separate form for each event.
- Evidence must be provided to support your nomination.
- Expressions of interest close at 5:00pm Thursday 21st August 2025. No late entries will be accepted.
